Winter scheduling: Winter staffing continues this week. Full-time faculty are currently being scheduled. Faculty coordinators will be reaching out to PHL and part-time faculty this week for course selections.
District-wide A.S. degree: The Seattle Colleges are developing common A.S. degrees shared by all of the colleges, including the A.S. degree student learning outcomes (SLOs). A committee of faculty members from the Seattle Colleges have developed a draft of common SLOs and would appreciate your feedback. The proposed outcomes were based on the existing learning outcomes at each college, the district’s common A.A. Degree SLOs, and sources from ABET, AAS, AAAS, Vision and Change, and the AACU. Please look at the proposed AS Degree Learning Outcomes. Survey link.
Syllabi: If you haven’t already done so, please submit your course syllabi via the Academic Programs Canvas page. We still have some outstanding syllabi left out there!
Textbook Adoptions: A reminder from the bookstore that adoptions for winter quarter are due Friday, October 20. Orders can be sent via online or e-mail. Please contact your faculty coordinator for more information.

Events and Announcements:
Transfer Events and Workshops: Please see the attached list of transfer workshops and help spread the word to your students. For more information, contact Kat Coelho-Vermeulen.
Foundation Scholarships: South Seattle College Foundation scholarships are due October 30. Encourage your students to apply and support their application by offering to write a letter of recommendation!
Student Services Nudge Campaign: In partnership with CIVITAS Learning, student services staff will be sending three e-mails from mid-October to late November with the intent of engaging students to seek advising and re-enroll for winter quarter. Attached is the text of the three emails that will be sent leading up to and after registration for winter quarter opens. This campaign focuses on about 200 domestic students in our academic transfer programs that CIVITAS has identified as high achieving, but low projection to re-enroll. The goal is to provide these students with the encouragement, information, and resources to continue in their program of study. If you have any questions, please contact Jesse Knappenberger, Dean of Student Achievement.

I am on campus this week, with the exception of Tuesday afternoon for an off-campus meeting. I have open office hours on Wednesday, 12:00-1:00pm and Thursday, 12:30-1:30pm.
I had the opportunity to attend the RST S-STEM kick off dinner last Thursday evening at Seattle Central. South was well-represented with several students, faculty mentors, and staff in attendance. A special shout out to Jake Ashcraft for his leadership in the program. I’m looking forward to future RST events, and would encourage all of you to get involved!
My door is always open to support your teaching and professional goals here at South. If I haven’t gotten a chance to meet you yet in person, please stop by and say hello! Have a wonderful week!
